Today was relatively short but still a little more tough than I expected. It was 66 miles which seemed at the time a welcome stroll compared to yesterday's 105 (which I think was actually more like 110). I've been riding mainly with my friends Kevin and James at a pretty good clip. Today we got into camp around 2:30 giving us some much needed down time. I'm extremely impressed on how nice everyone is on this ride. We are a rolling team stretching for miles on end. The entire experience has been amazing. What's really amazing are the self identified Positive Pedallers who are a force not to reckon with. I have also met 2 people riding fixed, I've seem others on tandems and triples on recumbants and folding bikes. This is a gruelling ride and the drive and the commitment the riders have is really impressive.
This picture was taken at dinner this afternoon with new friend Dale. We have 97 miles on the menu for tomorrow time to get some stretching in.
Today hadn't been too challenging despite the threat of the "quad buster", a sharp steep hill to begin day 3. Yesterday was a long 105 miles. It took us a good 2 hours to get through the morning traffic even though we hit the road relatively early. Even though we kept a quick pace we somehow ended up in the back of the back. Kind of disheartening since we were travelling at a fast clip. Yesteday had some amazing stops. Got to have fried artichokes road side then went skinny dipping which was amazingly refreshing. Last night we ended in King City and today we are on a 66 mile trek to Paso Robles. I'm at our lunch stop nearly 40 miles into the ride and its only 11:30. Hopefully we'll get to camp in just a few hours giving us tons of time to stretch and chillax. I'm riding with Kevin and James who have been awesome but I am meeting tons of great people including Mateo from Brooklyn riding fixed!! Time to eat!!
Its 5 am. Its cold. Have 105 miles ahead of us. Time to get moving.
